void draw() {}
void draw() {} is a fun little book about identity, composition, randomness, the computer, and the self. It's a bit more conceptual than my usual work, which tends to be solely representational. As with my sumo book, I used the Risograph at UCSB (see colophon). I also hand stitched each of the books.
Two "easter eggs": There are actually 31 editions, as I started with Edition 0 as one does when programming. Also, the curly bracket starts in the title and encapsulates the whole book until the back cover.
The paper colors were assigned, and I had to account for the salmon paper. I originally tried sunflower rather than seafoam, but it didn't show up. Many processes in this book, such as the Risograph registration and my method of adding the stickers (colorful blocks on the middle spread) were quite random. I wanted to collaborate with the machine rather than control it. I did enough controlling with my code.
The compositions utilize P3D in Processing, in which I draw an image and let the pseudorandom translation process create new compositions.
